It’s encouraging to read that small and medium-size UK companies are feeling more optimistic in their outlook according to the Daily Telegraph Business Tracker published last week. 56pc are feeling upbeat in the 5 week period to May 27, a turnaround on the previous 3 trackers when company mood was tracked to be pessimistic.
This bears out what we see across multiple sectors; UK SMEs are resilient, creative and nimble. They continue to contribute above their weight to the UK economy in terms of innovation and international trade, even in uncertain times. Opportunity follows optimism, and this means we’re looking ahead to buoyancy in M&A as larger companies capitalise on such talent and entrepreneurship.
Optimistic firms shared stories of successfully secured investment (16pc) and increased sales (12pc). One in ten messages about growth came from the UK regions.
